Lotte van Drunen has wrapped up the Women’s Motocross World Championship (WMX) with a bronze medal. The two-time world champion of the De Baets AIT Yamaha Supported WMX Team finished second overall at the season finale in Darwin, Australia, securing third place in the final WMX championship standings.

Van Drunen travelled to Australia for the fifth and final round of the WMX season. The Dutch rider once again demonstrated her speed at the season finale, finishing second and third in the two races.
In the opening race, Van Drunen made the most of a strong start and completed the opening lap in fourth position. Riding her Yamaha YZ250F equipped with GYTR components, she then began her charge towards the front. After a few laps, Van Drunen moved past fast-starting Nellie Fransson to take third place. The Dutch rider was not satisfied with that position either. On the penultimate lap, she managed to pass Kiara Fontanesi, moving up into second. She eventually crossed the finish line in second place, just under five seconds behind the winner.

Her start in the second race was less impressive, but Van Drunen managed to overtake several riders during the opening lap to move up to fifth place. She continued her charge throughout the race and eventually reached third position. By that stage, however, the two leading riders had already built too much of a gap for her to challenge for a higher position.

With second and third-place finishes in the two races, Van Drunen secured second overall at the Australian season finale. More importantly, the result was enough to secure third place in the final championship standings. With the bronze medal, Van Drunen now brings her 2026 WMX campaign to a close. However, the Dutch rider will not have much time to rest, as she will travel on to the United States, where she will line up for the SMX finale.

In 2027, the World Championship will be expanded to six rounds. The new season will begin in February in Spain and conclude in Australia again in September.
